Here is a mostly-unscripted progress report on my Custom Ikea Kitchen Build.

As a reminder, we have a galley kitchen, so I made the decision to break the removal and installation into two steps. On the one hand, this does drag things out, but on the other hand, it allows us to not totally lose the kitchen during this mess.

So I first ripped out the "easy" side of the kitchen. The stove/fridge side just has cabinets to install, so this is my "go to school" side of the kitchen. Once I'm more comfortable with this, I'll move on to the sink/dishwasher side, with it's plumbing and other headaches.

I still had some headaches here. In particular I found the Ikea instructions to be ... "fuzzy" ... when it comes to the all important step of installing the support rails to the wall. I like clear and concise instructions. I was looking for something like "With 40 inch uppers, set your upper rail at this height, and with 30 inch uppers set your rail at this height"... and that just wasn't there. I ended up figuring out the height on my own.

I also had to notch one of the upper cabinets to fit around some plumbing. This went pretty easily, with notching the top and the back of the cabinet and then building a small box to cover over the plumbing.

In the end, I have five cabinets installed and almost ready for installing the doors and drawers and counter --- first still need to deal with some unforseen wall touchups and painting.
