Punch-Out!! Gold (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Nintendo's 1987 boxing game for the NES, Punch-Out!!

Punch-Out!! Gold, or Special, as it is sometimes referred to, was the very first version of Punch-Out!! to be released on a home console. It is not the same as Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! nor the later rerelease that uses Mr. Dream as the final opponent.

This version of it was never officially sold. There were 10,000 copies of this gold cartridge made, and they were offered as prizes in a contest Nintendo of Japan held for the Famicom Disk System Game, "US Golf Tournament." Half of them were given away to people with high scores, while others were given away in a related raffle. The game is one of the most sought-after Japanese Famicom collectors items.

There aren't too many major changes - the base game here is pretty much the same thing that we saw in later releases - but there are some color palette differences, changes have been made to quite a bit of the text, the Title Bout screen's music is different, and Super Macho Man is the final opponent.

It's a neat novelty that I haven't heard many people talk about, so I thought it would be a fun thing to share.
