Push system vs Pull system in your value stream

The five principles of Lean look at Value, Value Stream, Flow, Pull, and Perfection.
To apply Pull you must first have Flow, or have a product or service actually being delivered to your customer.

Most organizations start in a Push system. Each person or step in their value stream or process works as hard as they can and as fast as they can to provide value to the next step.

A Pull system instead works at the speed of the customer, ideally only producing a product or service when a customer demands it.
