Is it safe to stay in Oakland, California?

Yes, Oakland certainly has its challenges. However, there is a lot of culture to learn about, but frankly, we don't stay in Oakland, California for it's culture. We stayed in Oakland for necessity while visiting friends.

What we did learn though, at our stay at the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square, is that there is a lot to do and see! We were not expecting such a wide array of restaurants and shops to visit.

We were not even aware that a ferry terminal was within walking distance of the Waterfront Hotel. We thought, "lets take a ferry to San Francisco."

Taking the short ferry ride really encapsulates the essence of visiting the Bay, connecting Oakland to San Francisco.
