Tackling the effects of climate change at Ham House

Описание к видео Tackling the effects of climate change at Ham House

The gardens at Ham House, cared for by the National Trust, are rooted in centuries of history but it is now that they face their greatest challenge. Climate change has made the London estate more vulnerable to flooding and rising temperatures are scorching plants that once thrived in the walled garden. Trees are at greater risk from pests and diseases and blossom, fruit and young plants are being affected by drier springs.

The team at Ham House are working around the clock to put in measures that will help the 17th-century estate adapt to the changing climate. These include changes to planting and gardening processes, the use of Victorian-inspired irrigation systems and planting trees that are more resilient to future weather patterns.
