With a career spanning 20 years, South Africa's First Lady of Comedy, Tumi Morake, has steadily grown into a trailblazer for performers on the African continent. She has channelled her comedy into writing, acting and producing.
Today, she is one of the most sought-after headline acts globally.
As a comedian, MC, speaker and presenter, Tumi has bagged nominations and awards during her time on the breakfast airwaves on both commercial and public radio stations. Currently, you can catch her on Last One Laughing South Africa hosted by Trevor Noah on Amazon, and Netflix Presents Comedians of The World, in which she was the first African female stand-up comedian to have a special on Netflix. To talk to us about her journey as a woman in comedy as we celebrate 30 years of democracy, Tumi joins us in the studio this morning.
