The Humane Society of Genesee County is preparing to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 100 years of service dedicated to providing second chances and forever homes for animals in need.

Founded on Jan. 8, 1926, by a small group with a simple mission to help animals, the shelter has thrived over the past century.

Lin Holmes, adoption manager at the shelter, reflected on the organization's growth, saying, "To think that a shelter that started off is something that people, you know, were trying to help animals out and what we have achieved in the community has helped us achieve."
