• Blackwood is a town in south wales - Monmouthshire county.

• The town was founded in the 19th century by a local colliery owner John Moggridge. He built the first houses in Blackwood and turned it from a village to the town it is today.

• the Maxime cinema was a purpose built cinema that was built in 1938 and opened in 1939 by William S wort.

• the Chartist bridge, the statue is to honour the Chartist March from Blackwood to Newport in November 1839.

• 4000 Chartist sympathisers demanded democracy.

• in April 1912 wireless enthusiasts Artie Moore, picked up a distress signal from the titanic from his home in Gelligroes mill.

• The rock back manic street preachers also
came from Blackwood.
