DrM, Dr. Mueller AG recently supplied a filtration package to an oil & gas operator in the Middle East.
The package consists of no. 3 filters and a precoat tank with ancillary equipment (precoat pumps, filter aid dosing system). The filters are designed to operate in a 3x50% configuration, with the nominal capacity of 90 m3/h split between 2 units operating in parallel and the third in stand-by.

The filters will be used to treat Rich MEG. MEG (Mono-Ethylene Glycol) is used as a hydrate inhibitor in gas production operations and, when injected at the wellhead, prevents pipe plugging and minimises corrosion. Injected MEG solution is typically ~80% pure, with the remaining 20% being mostly water. As it flows to the onshore terminal, the MEG mixes with reservoir formation water (becoming "rich" in water) and is also contaminated with salts present in the reservoir fluid. Treatment is therefore required to make the MEG, which is used in a closed loop, suitable for reinjection. Among a number of treatment steps, suspended divalent salts such as CaCO3 and MgOH2 must be removed from the rich MEG stream, which is what our filters do. Precoating with DE is considered to address the fouling potential of certain components in the Rich MEG stream.

As always with DrM systems, the fully automatic operation and highly efficient blowback enabled by our unique candle design results in superior and consistent performance over time. Filtered solids are discharged as a dry cake, minimizing MEG losses. An optional cake washing system can further reduce MEG losses to negligible levels.
