Well what do we have here? A couple of delicious Speysides that are going to hit opposite ends of the taste spectrum!? That’s today’s objective as I review a young fruity Linkwood against a new peated line from the hand and mind of Billy Walker at GlenAllachie.

The Signatory Vintage bottling of a 9-year-old Linkwood was matured on a Charred Wine Hogshead and is from cask 306197. It was bottled in a 750ml bottle at a hefty 58.2% abv. Retail priced at only $104, I couldn’t pass it up on the shelf.

The Meikle Toir “The Turbo” is described on their website as, “Taking the ‘heart of the heart’ of our distillate – the spirit cut which contains the highest phenol content – ‘The Turbo’ entails an amplified smoky identity. The 2023 Release is a combination of three American virgin oak casks and five Oloroso hogsheads. The result is a multi-faceted whisky with a powerful punch of peat.” From the bottle we know that it hasn’t had any color added, is 5 years old, with a phenol count of 71 ppm on the malted barley. It’s bottled in a 700ml bottle at 100 proof and retails around $75 to $95.

It's ONLY with the support of my Patrons that I'm able to continue this channel by self-purchasing the bottles I review. It's the only way you can be sure I'm giving you honest, unbiased, & straightforward reviews!

As of July 2024, my current bottle count is over 2,800. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been accredited by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for three decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into this collection and career. Speaking of my career, I’m super proud to announce that my “Saints Alley “Nobleman” Rye Whiskey was named “Best American Rye” at the 2024 World Whisky Awards! Fortunately, we’re still aging up more barrels of it, and as soon as they’re ready, I’ll work the next batch. But until then, don’t forget, that our other Bourbons have also won multiple awards and are on Total Wine shelves now (be sure to ask for a sample when you're in the stores)! So, also keep an eye out for our bourbons with amazing finishes like our Flagship Port & Cognac, the “Herald” an Armagnac finish, the Special Edition White Port & Cognac finish, and our Special Edition "Herald" that adds Pineau Des Charentes casks to the standard's Armagnac alone. It was just named "The Best Overall Bourbon" in a blind competition at Tales of the Cocktail's - 2023 New Orleans Spirit Competition! Given my decades of consumer/reviewer experience, you know I’m working hard with my team to continue bringing you whiskeys that we’re very proud of! Thanks for watching and please remember to drink responsibly. Cheers!
