Reggie Carroll, a beloved stand-up comedian known for touring clubs across the country and working alongside Mo’Nique, has died. He was 52.
The comedian was fatally shot in Southaven, Mississippi, on Wednesday, Aug. 20, the Southaven Police Department confirmed.
According to authorities, officers responded to Burton Lane after reports of a shooting. Despite life-saving efforts from police and medical personnel, Carroll died from his injuries at the scene.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, police announced that one male suspect is in custody and has been charged with Carroll’s murder.
Carroll, a Baltimore native, appeared on Showtime at the Apollo in 2000 and went on to produce and host the 2023 standup special *Knockout Kings of Comedy*.
Tributes poured in from fans and fellow comedians following news of his death.
Mo’Nique, 57, honored Carroll in an emotional Instagram Stories post, calling him her “brother in comedy.”
Carroll’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support on Facebook: “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!”
Baltimore’s Mobtown Comedy Club remembered him as one of the city’s foundational voices. “. “The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents.”
