Porsche 911 Turbo S: Highlights

Loosed on an unsuspecting public in the mid-1970s, the Porsche 911 Turbo's crazy-for-the-time speed, edgy, spinout-prone handling, and well-muscled, whale-tailed looks instantly earned it a spot on the list of exotic, car-enthusiast fantasy machines. The 2025 911 Turbo might seem less outrageous—the 911's shape is as familiar as a Wheaties box, after all—but its rocket-like performance and seductive driving character continue to deserve a place in the pantheon of go-faster automobiles. The current Turbo doesn't look much different from other 911s, but it is. Packed in its derrière is an ass-kicking twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six delivering 572 horsepower in the Turbo and a massive 640 ponies in Turbo S trim. That's enough for a 60 mph rip of 2.2 seconds and a quarter-mile run in 9.9 seconds at 138 mph, making the Turbo S one of the quickest vehicles we have ever tested. Yes, the 911 Turbo is capable of reaching absurd speeds in a flash, but it’s no one-trick pony. It’s also comfortable racing along winding roads or whooshing down Interstates. Credit its responsive steering, sticky tires, and poised, scienced-out handling. Its standard PDK eight-speed automatic transmission shifts quicker than any human can, although we still long for a manual transmission option. While the 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo keeps a lower profile these days, its astonishing speed and poised performance make it capable of upstaging many a flashier, wedge-shaped supercar.

What's New for 2025?
The big news in the Porsche 911 lineup is the arrival of the T-Hybrid powertrain in the GTS, which we review separately. Otherwise, the other 911 variants, including the Turbo models reviewed here, carry over unchanged.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Hanging out in the rear of both the Turbo and Turbo S is a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six engine that makes up to 640 horsepower in the more powerful of the two variants; the regular Turbo model makes 572 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and shifts are handled by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Aside from the explosive acceleration, the 911 Turbo exhibits insane levels of cornering grip and strong brakes, making it a performance powerhouse. There's more here than pure numbers, though: like lesser 911s, the Turbos are rife with tactility; they offer up vivid steering feel and feedback, and near-faultless handling stability that makes average drivers feel like heroes. The cabriolet variant is slightly heavier than the coupe, but the droptop Turbo S we drove proved equally thrilling.
