What’s up YouTube fam? E85 can have a slow start in cold weather because ethanol, the main component of E85, is difficult to ignite in freezing temperatures:
Ethanol is a coolant
Ethanol is an effective coolant and antifreeze agent, which helps keep the engine cool.
Ethanol needs to vaporize
Ethanol is an alcohol that doesn't freeze, but it needs to vaporize to warm up.
Cold temperatures make it harder to vaporize
The colder the weather, the more time and energy it takes for ethanol to vaporize. To ensure proper starting and performance, E85 is adjusted seasonally and geographically. For example, E85 sold in colder months often contains lower levels of ethanol. If you’re seeing this you more than likely have a project car or at the very least love cars in general.
