I need to know what to do about not feeling hungry during pregnancy.

Remember that you are eating for point one of a person, not two. Don’t expect to eat enough for two, and you won’t be very hungry later if you did.

This isn’t as simple as not feeling hungry at lunch because I had a big breakfast. In fact, I haven’t been eating much in the morning due to morning sickness.

If you’ve been throwing up all day, I’d expect you to feel thirsty, not hungry.

If I had really bad morning sickness, I’d know that the first thing to do is get a drink.

Make sure it is something that actually hydrates you like juice instead of caffeinated drinks or it can make you feel even worse, like irritate the stomach acid and make you throw up again.

I’d definitely hate to deal with indigestion.

If you have indigestion, which tends to kick in during the second trimester, you are advised to eat smaller meals throughout the day to help control the acid production and avoid having so much food in your stomach you feel like throwing up.

If I were eating a constantly throughout the day, I would know why I wasn’t hungry.

If you have constant queasiness, you may not feel hungry because your body doesn’t want to throw up again. And if you’re constantly drinking juice and eating crackers to control it, you may not feel hungry because you’re full.

It isn’t something that straightforward.

If you are eating a heavy meal in the afternoon and evening to offset for feeling ill all morning, you may not feel hungry the next morning before your blood sugar starts to drop.

That doesn’t sound healthy.

Fasting is bad, but eating heavy meals at night to offset not eating much of a breakfast is fine.

I feel like I haven’t been very hungry lately.

If you have bad constipation, it can produce gas and stomach pressure. The end result may be a false feeling of being full until your system empties out.

The default solution for constipation is drinking more water.

There’s a limit to how much water you can drink that makes you feel full, but a third of women have a false sense of hunger when they are really thirsty.

I’m not drinking so much water that I slosh and don’t feel hungry.

Then the problem may be constipation and gas. The solution is more fiber.

It sounds weird that you’re suggesting that I eat oatmeal to cure my not feeling hungry.

If you don’t have much room in your stomach, some of those high fiber crackers that they sell in the pharmacy for old people are an option.

At least it is something I can try.

It is also something you can try when you’re dealing with morning sickness and queasiness, so you can get fiber in your system along with drinking a lot of water without eating so much it causes indigestion.

I’m wondering if it is something other than indigestion or constipation.

If your thyroid is out of whack, it can shut down your appetite.

That requires bloodwork to diagnose.

Diabetes can make you thirsty versus hungry, but you need bloodwork to diagnose that properly too.

At least I have ideas of what to do before I go in for yet another doctor’s appointment.
