This song has a really funky time signature. I'm not really sure what it is but in order to play it, you have to feel it. It was written by Gregg Allman right after he came back from trying his luck in LA. According to "SongFact,"....This searing song is about a man who has been betrayed by his woman to the point where he feels like he's helpless - just tied to the whipping post, awaiting more punishment. Gregg Allman wrote it in Jacksonville in 1968, just after he returned from Los Angeles. Gregg wrote this on an ironing board using burnt matches. He got the idea in the middle of the night and couldn't find a pen. This became a staple of their live shows. They usually played it as an extended jam, often improvising so it did not sound the same twice. This was the last song on the first Allman Brothers album. Berry Oakley came up with the bass line, which the band worked around. Oakley died in a motorcycle accident in 1972.

Martin joins us or this one as well playing his 2007 Gibson EC model...the EC stands for Eric Clapton. Frank does his usual great job on the vocals and John trades nice leads with Martin using my awesome 1997 Bourgeois Country Boy (Ricky Skaggs Model). I am playing my 1978 Takamine F-375S (also known as the lawsuit guitar....google it to understand why Martin Guitar Company threatened to take Takamine to court) tuned to "Nashville Tuning." We had a lot of fun recording this song and we hope you enjoy our cover. Please "like," "share," and "subscribe" to our channel.
