Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, known for his strict policies and close relationship with the country's supreme leader has passed away after his helicopter crashed near near Iran’s border with Azerbaijan along with him Foreign Minister Hossein was also on board when the helicopter made a hard landing. This news as sent shockwave across the entire world. While few prominent world leaders like PM Modi, Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari expressed their concern, many social media users are celebrating the unfortunate death of Raisi.
Raisi who was involved in the large-scale executions of thousands of people in 1988 has also played a key role in Iran's efforts to enrich uranium, bringing it close to the levels needed for nuclear weapons. Additionally, he incident happened after Iran, under President Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, launched a major drone and missile attack on Israel last month. They also made uranium closer to weapons-grade levels than ever before.
While, there are reports that says that sudden bad weather in mountainous Dizmar including rain and fog that hampered visibility during the flight caused the accident. Iran's interior minister, Ahmad Vahidi, explained that it was a "hard landing due to poor weather conditions.
But the fact cannot be ignored that, The incident comes as Iran under Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei launched an unprecedented drone-and-missile attack on Israel last month which lead to speculations of Israel's involvement in Raisi's controversial death.
According to a report in the Economist, Given the long-standing hostility between Iran and Israel, some Iranians think Israel might be responsible for the crash. This idea is becoming more popular due to recent tensions, like Israel's assassination of an Iranian general in Damascus and Iran's missile attack in response. The Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, is known for acting against Iranian interests, but it has never targeted a head of state before.
Though Israel has clearly denied its involvement. According to Reuters, an Israeli official has confirmed that it wasn't us.
It is still a question that who can be behind Raisi's death or actually it was an accident. However, the timing of the helicopter crash increases regional tensions. Iran's network of allies in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen makes the situation more complicated, especially with the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Any instability in Iran's leadership could encourage these groups to act more aggressively, potentially leading to a wider conflict.
