Gayatri Mantra is a universal prayer enriched in the Vedas. Gayatri Mantra is one of the oldest and most powerful of Sanskrit mantras. It is said that if the true meaning of this mantra is fully realised, an individual transcends all boundaries of consciousness and ultimately unites with god himself. Gayatri Mantra is dedicated to the Mother of the Vedas and the Goddess of the five elements Gayatri, also known as Savitri. The Mantra is a part of the Rig Veda's third Mandala which has 62 hymns.

Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit:
ऊं भूर्भुव: स्व:
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो न: प्रचोदयात् ||

Gayatri Mantra in English:
Om bhur bhuvaḥ svaḥ, tatsavitur varenyam, bhargo devasya dhimahi, dhiyo yo nah prachodayat.

ॐ — OM — The Primitive Sound also known as Pranav Mantra
भूर् — BHUR — the physical world
भुवः — BHUVA — the mental world
स्वः — SVAHA — the celestial, the spiritual world
तत् — TAT — That, God; Transcendental Paramatma
सवितुर — SAVITUR — the Sun, the Creator, Preserver
वरेण्यं — VARENYAM — more adorable, lovely
भर्गो — BHARGO — shine, effulgence
देवस्य — DEVASYA — resplendent, supreme Lord
धीमहि — DEEMAHI — we meditate on
धियो यो — DHI YO — intelligence, understanding, Intellect
नः — NAH — Nah: our
प्रचोदयात् — PRACHODAYAT — enlighten, guide, inspire

Meaning of Gayatri Mantra in English:
“Oh life-giver, destroyer of sorrow and creator of bliss
He who is the great Savitr/Sun
May the lord worthy of worship direct our deeds
May he accept our prayers and give us strength and knowledge.”

Meaning of Gayatri Mantra in Hindi:
हम ईश्वर की महिमा करते हैं, जिसने मनुष्य को प्राण प्रदाण किया है, इस संसार को उत्पन्न किया है, जो पूजनीय है, जो ज्ञान का भंडार है, जो अज्ञान को दूर करने वाला हैं- करें। वह परमात्मा हमारी बुद्धि को सन्मार्ग में प्रेरित करे।
