The Moxon Vise is one of those little "ultimate secret hacks" in woodworking that can completely change the quality of your work at your bench. The history of the vise is worth reading about if you appreciate the history of woodworking and like pondering what your life would be like as a 17th century furniture maker. No pressure in those days making furniture . . . just that if the King didn't like it, you lost your head.

The reasons for a Moxon Vise are two fold: The first is to simply raise the piece to effectively work the end of boards for dovetails and sawing. The second is to give the ability to work with wide boards, up to 24 inches, based on how wide you place the two screws.

Combined, you have a very strong and versatile clamping platform.
