Motion of Center of Mass

When external force is applied on a system of particles, by definition the centre of mass of the system moves as if the external force acts on centre of mass and whole mass of system were concentrated at the centre of mass. If net external force is zero, the centre of mass remains at rest or moves with a constant velocity. If centre of mass of a system is initially at rest in the absence of external force it will remain at rest even though its individual particles begin the move under the action of internal forces.
