In August 2025 we were at Resorts World in Las Vegas and decided (after multiple cocktails) that it would be fun to take a free test ride in a Zoox robotaxi! At this time the service is only available to test out on two pre-programmed routes: there is a shorter 9 minute ride that takes you around the Resorts World complex, and a longer 21 minute ride that takes you around the Las Vegas Strip.

We chose the Las Vegas Strip loop because we thought it would be amazing to see the Strip in a Zoox! It turned out to be a bit of a misnomer because we spent just a short time on the actual Strip around Excalibur and NYNY. However, it was still an exceptional opportunity to see what Zoox was all about!

We did have to sign waivers before we took the ride, and we were a bit concerned about our safety since we know that Zoox is still in test mode and that there had been at least one accident, but we were assured it was safe. Honestly, if we hadn't had a few cocktails we may not have done this at all.

When we first entered the Zoox we saw that there was a dark, relaxing atmosphere that made it look like a star-studded sky. The is plenty of room for four people, with two seats facing the other two seats. There was a simple control pad in several locations where you could select your preferred music and climate, see your route, and see how long it will take to your destination. There is a charger in between the seats so you can keep your devices charged up. There was also an emergency button, which seems like a good idea.

Our biggest takeaway is that we felt completely safe while in the Zoox, which was a surprise because we never imagined that we would be riding in an autonomous vehicle! The Zoox seemed to obey all traffic signals and stop signs. We felt like it was driving a bit fast at times but we couldn't see the speedometer and it's unlikely the Zoox was speeding because surely it's programmed to observe posted speed limits.

We'll have to see whether or not we take a Zoox once the app is available and you can hail a ride to take you anywhere. However, the test ride was an excellent experience and it was great for us to try it out! We hope this video is useful and that you enjoy watching!
