Dr Tan Lai Yong, a medical doctor, chose to take the road less travelled. In 1996 he went to Yunnan, China with his wife and one year old child to help some of the most impoverished villages. Over 15 years he trained 500 doctors and thousands of healthcare workers there. Today, he’s devoted his life to deepening connectedness between his students at the College of Alice and Peter Tan (NUS) and disadvantaged “hidden communities” in Singapore.
