“There is no time for us as women to devote to ourselves. Our lives have become getting wood to the fire, washing on the floor, and the struggle of hanging clothes to dry. Before that, we had a roof. Here it does not exist. Here, our entire lives have become exposed to the public. There is no privacy for women. And about sleeping? We sleep in our prayer clothes because of the fear the Jews suddenly enter upon us and we need to flee. Security for us is almost non-existent. Our lives as women have been destroyed in terms of all our requirements and privacy.”

"The bathroom. Before, when you went to your bathroom to take a shower there was no fear or anything, you showered comfortably. Here, you just want to relieve yourself and get out quickly. In addition, you’re afraid they might bomb near you, so you finish in the bathroom as quickly as you can."

"A woman's life in war, in addition to everything we've lost, is a great concern for women. She has lost her very being and everything in this war. Women used to take care of themselves before the war, now everything is destroyed. In the past, they would go to the market for all kinds of manicures (products). They had everything lined up, and if they were missing a colour they would go out to buy it. Now, her manicure (nail polish) is nothing but ashes from the fire."
