Building Bridges in the Developing World

In the developed world, it takes years, if not decades, to plan, design, and construct most transportation infrastructure. In this webinar, learn about how ingenuity, cooperation, modest investments, and a commitment to helping those in need, can deliver essential transportation infrastructure in the developing world.

Since 2010, WSP has been collaborating with Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) on bridge design and the construction of projects, with the completion of eleven bridge builds to date, worldwide.

In August 2023, an 11-person team from WSP traveled to Rwanda to construct the Kanyiramana Trail Bridge. Over 13 days, the team of WSP volunteers, aided by engineers from Bridges to Prosperity and local villagers, constructed the Kanyiramana 2 Trailbridge across the Mwogo River. At a main span length of nearly 156 meters, the bridge is B2P’s longest suspension bridge ever constructed.

During the rainy season the river floods becoming dangerous, and often deadly, to those attempting to cross. The new bridge is expected to improve the lives of 3,800 nearby villagers who risk crossing the river or must walk several miles across difficult terrain to gain safe, year-round access to health clinics, schools, markets, and other basic services.
