In his powerful work, American artist Hank Willis Thomas explores love not just as a personal connection, but as a collective strength. Over the past decade, he has increasingly made work for the public realm, creating visually striking, large-scale outdoor sculptures that challenge systems of inequality while affirming our shared humanity.

His monuments for our time encourage empathy, civic engagement and community—reminding us that love is, and always has been, a catalyst for change.

In conversation with Eva Respini, Deputy Director & Director of Curatorial Programs, Thomas discusses his non-studio practice and his work within the public sphere.
