How Do You Sleep?- John Lennon (Guitar Cover)

I'm no hater of Paul McCartney, but this song is awesome. It's off of Lennon's 1971 album Imagine and features George Harrison on slide-lead guitar

John played his Epiphone Casino on the bridge pickup, into a Fender Twin Reverb or a Fender Blonde Bassman. I'm using a 1963 Blonde Bassman amp and my 2021 Epiphone USA Casino. I'm using an Analogman King of Tone on the boost side for a little crunch

The 63 Bassman head is running into my 65 Bassman cab. Settings-
Vol 2.5
Treb 6.5
Bass 4.5
Pres 7.5
and the Casino tone knob is rolled down to 4.5

George Harrison played a 1961 Sonic Blue Stratocaster with a 1950's maple neck. This was John's same Sonic Blue Strat that he used with the Beatles, but had been modded with a different neck. You can see in photos and videos that it still retained its 1960's mint green pickguard. Mint green pickguards and sonic blue finishes were not available in the 1950's, so the body is definitely John's 1961

George had the Strat on position 2 pickup setting. This is the middle and bridge pickups together, out of phase. Most Strats you buy now have a 5 way switch and can do this setting. But before 1977 all Strats were 3 way and you had to jam the selector switch in between two settings

He played this song in standard tuning with a slide. For a lot of songs George would play in open E EBEGsharpBE. But because this song was in a minor key, it's easier to play in standard.

It's unclear what amp George used. The only amps seen during the Imagine sessions were a Twin Reverb, Blonde Bassman and Klaus's Ampeg bass amp. George's tone is crunchy and sounds more like a small Fender champ, like he used on All Things Must Pass. But it's possible the overdriven sound you hear on both John and George's guitars on this song were added after the fact by Phil Spector in the control room

I'm using my Fender Custom Shop Sonic Blue 63 Stratocaster in position 2 into my 1962 Fender Tweed 5F1 Champ amp. It's on volume 6.5, which is at noon. I'm also using a glass slide on my pinky like George did. I also added a little bit of ADT tape delay to George's part with my Abbey Road J37 tape saturation plug-in. I had the delay setting on 41ms which is such a short delay that it sounds flangey
