The artist shares the inner workings of her mind behind creating one of her song, Rilli. Kindly note parts of the talk are in Urdu/Punjabi. Zainub J. Khawaja is a Lahore based artist with a practice of music that is continuously evolving. She has trained within various indigenous apprenticeship traditions of the Indian subcontinent, namely; khayal gayaki with Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, Gurbani Sangeet with Bhai Ghulam Muhammad Chand of the Rababi tradition, and Seraiki Kafi with Riaz Qadri. She has had a long run as composer and director of Harsakhiyan (appeared on Coke Studio Pakistan season 12). She has also been working towards recording her original solo songs for release as an independent artist, reinterpreting her favorite folk and classical melodies, as well as composing and writing her originals.
