NHL 2K (Dreamcast)

This game - NHL 2K on the Dreamcast - was the very first game in the well renowned 2K series that first saw the light of day in early 2000. The 2K series then continued on to NHL 2K11 on many platforms (including Playstation 2 and 3, Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360).
But on May 25, 2011, 2K Sports confirmed that NHL 2K12 would not be released on any platform, putting the NHL 2K series to rest... until they released a new 2K game on iOS and Androd (but that doesn't count in our book).
Noteworthy is also that the NHL 2K was released as part of an exclusive lineup of SEGA Sports titles.

NHL 2K was produced by Black Box Games that also worked on several of the following NHL 2K games as well as many of the Need for Speed games (Carbon, ProStreet, Undercover and Underground).
2008 Black Box was restructured as part of a EA. Black Box was moved from Vancouver and merged with EA in Burnaby, British Colombia. Black Box continues to exist as a studio in the EA Games Label.

What can we say? This is a great first game of a series. It might not have all the fancy extra features that modern hockey games have, but it's a really fun title. So if you're disappointed in modern hockey games for modern systems, why don't give this one a try? Play hockey like it's roughly 1999.
