Few Second World War shipwrecks are in...quite as rough shape as the destroyer Yudachi. Obviously, there are cases like Roma or Hood where the ship was blown completely apart as she sank. And Roma, of course, is actually pretty well preserved. In pieces or not.

Yet, Yudachi is arguably worse off. While her stern was blown apart, the rest of the ship has severely rusted away in the last 30 years.

She's deteriorated far more than any other deep water Pacific wreck. To the point that parts of the ship are gone, for all intents and purposes. Her bridge has fallen. The one 'intact' turret is barely hanging on. And most of the ship is unrecognizable.

It's a striking sight, to say the least. Especially in looking at the difference between Ballard's 1992 survey and Nautilus' 2025 revisit.
