Do Melbourne Spider Crabs Aggregate all year ? Discuss !

Описание к видео Do Melbourne Spider Crabs Aggregate all year ? Discuss !

For many years now I have come to the conclusion that the aggregating SPIDER CRABS (Leptomithrax gaimardii) found in Port Phillip bay aggregate in large groups for most of the year. This is based on my observations and video recording. The old narrative is that they aggregate only during their main mass moulting time during May and June is incorrect. It's true that during these months many 1000's do moult within a few days of each other. Anywhere these Crabs march they play an important part in the ecology of Port Phillip . They do have more stories to tell other than moulting and being eaton by stingrays .
I have observed these crabs in large numbers often outside these traditional months and have made this presentation to start a discussion on this topic. Please comment. Pang Quong 25/9/24
