This strange fungi smells like rotting meat and looks like its straight out of an alien movie but its actually found all over our planet. The putrid lattice stinkhorn, also known as the red cage fungus, starts out as a dirty white ball, which is actually edible, but when the geometric reddish structure emerges, it fills with black poisonous spores and oozes with slimy, foul-smelling green gleba, which flies and other insects love to eat and roll around in, fulfilling the stinkhorn’s unique method of spore dispersal. It feeds off of decaying plant matter and emerges for only 24 hours making this alien fungus a sight to behold.
