Ribbons of Colour: artist Trudy Montgomery makes a large abstract painting

Описание к видео Ribbons of Colour: artist Trudy Montgomery makes a large abstract painting

How do you make a large abstract painting from start to finish? In this video I make 5 foot painting in her studio - from the early stages of stretching a canvas - through to transforming a sketch to a full scale painting.

I discuss my creative process, what inspires me to make such large expressive paintings, why I turn the canvas as I paint it, and the importance of colour and frequency in my art.

My path to becoming an artist is a rather unconventional one: I transitioned from corporate America to living a creative life via a career as an art consultant.

“With her bold brushstrokes and vibrant palette, Trudy Montgomery’s work brings to mind artists such as Albert Irvine, R.A., O.B.E.. Trudy’s work has been exhibited internationally and viewers can sense the influence of the light and space of California where the artist lived for 14 years. Her work is energetic, fresh and full of vitality.” — Jo Baring, Curator, Rise Art

“The sheer size of canvas and strength of colour in Trudy’s works make for deliciously emotive viewing, and hints of landscape in these otherwise highly abstracted paintings make her exhibitions akin to an intensely joyful, semi-spiritual walk through the more beautiful parts of your own imagination.” — Mercedes Smith, Masters In the Making, Cornwall Living magazine

Please note: I changed my name from Trudy Montgomery (my birth name) to Trudie Tara Moulton (my married name) at the end of 2023: https://www.trudietaramoulton.art
