Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at our Rhino Rack Nautic kayak or stand-up paddleboard carrier side loading as well as clamp on carriers here at etrailer. If you want to carry your kayak or your stand-up paddleboard, but you want something that creates a bit more of a comfortable experience for that compared to let's say your stackers or your J style carriers this might be an option for you. So this is as close to custom fit as you can get for your kayak since you have those cradles that can move back and forth to accommodate the shape of your hull. Now on the downside is you can only carry one kayak with these so if you need to carry multiple kayaks, and you need to maximize your space, this may not be the best option for you, but if you're carrying one or two kayaks, if you have the crossbar spread and you want something that can hold it nicely, securely and carefully, you might be interested in this one. So these are the clamp on side loading Rhino Rack Nautic Carriers. There's different types of Rhino Rack Nautic Carriers, there's rear loading where you load it up from the rear.

There is also a channel mounted version of these, so depending on your crossbars as well as how you prefer to load your kayak or your stand-up paddleboard, you have different options. So here we're gonna take a look at the side loading as well as clamp-on version. And if you have questions about the difference between a side loading or a rear loading kayak carrier, our rear loading kayak carrier is preferred if you have a longer stand-up paddleboard or a longer kayak enough where you can get enough clearance to bring it up and roll it towards your crossbars. Now if you have a vehicle where the crossbars are a bit towards the front, or you have the glass in the back, or if you have a longer back and you are kind of worried about bringing this towards the rear that's when you go for side loading where you think it's going to be more safe for your vehicle. So this comes with all the tie downs you will need to tie down your kayak.

So you have these straps that go into the center of your kayak. People like to tie them down in different ways. I do recommend going around your crossbars as much as you can. That way you strap it down to your crossbars. Notice how we also have a rubber padding around our cam buckle.

That's going to be because this is sitting on your kayaks. You want to make sure that rubber is right there just to protect it from extra scuffs and scratches. You actually have our larger and wider arrow shaped crossbars right over here. So you can see how we actually have plenty of room around it, which is great to see. Now the maximum dimensions of the crossbar this can clamp around is 3.78 inches wide, and 1.38 inches tall.

So this kayak carrier does not really lock in the terms of using a lock and key to keep it secure. Another kayak carrier that has lock cores like the Yakima JayLow if you want a J stock carrier. But what this does have is this does use a Rhino Rack security wrench. So it's basically a hex key with a special hole in the middle, which works with the bolts on this kayak here. So it does add a little extra level of security, but if you want to add even more, you can check out our options here at etrailer underneath locking options. This also comes with bow and stern straps. Now there's one thing about the bow and stern traps that I do not like, and that's that they do not have either a hook or a dog bone at the end to secure it underneath your hood. So like in the back, we have a hitch. So you will use a strap around the hitch brackets. Where over here, I actually use the etrailer tie down kit with its dog bone just cause it's so much easier to use that way. Another option for you is you can get the hood anchor point. It's from Rhino Rack, it's a temporary anchor point with a dog bone and a strap just like this. That might be a good addition for you too, but if you think you're gonna have some difficulty finding a spot for the straps for your bow and stern straps, you might want to consider those options. Now, depending on your kayak or your stand-up paddleboard if it is on the longer side, please make sure that whenever you open your hatch on vehicles that have hatches, that you are mindful of that clearance. And when you want to take your stand-up paddleboard or your kayak off, just loosen this cam buckle. Don't forget to take down your bow and stern straps first of course, but on
