The Akureyri Ski Resort In The Mountain Hlíðarfjall in Iceland - Iceland's Finest

This is a chance to see this great ski resort shortly before winter opening so it's a bit unusual sight. It has 8 ski lifts than can carry you to an elevation of 950 meters and it's been the most popular ski resort in the country for over 60 years.
Skiing is still is a growing part of the tourism in Akureyri and supports other industries such as catering, culture and other side industries. The Hlíðarfjall ski resort will open for guests in December but this was shot after the first serious snowfall in 2021, shortly before it opened up.

At the end of the video you can see a new district of holiday homes that has been built at the foot of the ski mountain and a new hotel is being built there as well, ready to for its first guests in 2022. It further supports year-round tourism outside the capital area which has been a difficult market for rural tourism.
