What's the REAL Cost of Fuel in East Africa Kenya vs Tanzania vs Uganda ?
Uganda currently has the most expensive fuel market in East Africa, with gasoline, which is often marketed as premium or super petrol, priced at approximately 5,040 Ugandan Shillings (about KSh 177.81), and diesel for about KSh 176.05 based on figures that were announced on February 17, 2025.

Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has gradually reduced fuel prices every month since 2024. Based on the august fuel prices review by EPRA, Kenya has the second most expensive fuel price. EPRA said petrol, diesel, and kerosene will retail for KSh 176.58, KSh 167.06, and KSh 151.39, in Nairobi respectively. The pricing in Kenya has remained unchanged from the previous cycle.

Tanzania and Rwanda fall in the mid-range, with petrol prices at 2,801 Tanzanian Shillings (KSh 146.49) per litre and 1,633 Rwandan Francs (KSh 148.72) per litre, respectively.

On the lower side, Ethiopia boasts the region’s cheapest fuel, with petrol priced at just 0.800 USD per litre (101.47 Ethiopian Birr/KSh 101.79), based on september 1,2025.
