4 ways to help with student engagement:

1. Use your voice more effectively. A drop to a whisper, a sudden boom in volume. Essentially, don’t talk in a monotone voice.

2. Be up and moving! Walking around the classroom as you teach and weaving in and out of your students helps keep their eyes on you. If you see your student starting to drift off or get distracted, walk toward them with a gentle hand on the shoulder .

3. Use your student’s interests to teach the content. Are your kids excited about legos or really into Minecraft? Try pulling an article or story about that and then working in skills like context clues, main idea, etc. You can do the same thing with math- make the story problems have their names, or try and use the skills you’re going to teach anyways within a context they’re interested in.

4. Be excited about what you’re teaching! Your excitement can be contagious!
