on January 22, 1879, shortly after the British were defeated at the battle of Isandlwana, about 3000 Zulus attacked just over 150 British soldiers that were encamped at Rorke's Drift. However, due to their better weapons and defenses, the British were able to hold off the Zulus for almost 10 hours. Even though the Zulus would have defeated the British, they decided to retreat, since the battle was becoming too costly.
