Born to Jewish Family in 1938 in Mexico City, he studied accounting at Escuela Bancaria Y Commercial. He worked a few years in his family's textile business and in 1972 branched out to banking. In 1974, with a few partners, he founded Banco Credito Y Servicio; in the next 6 years, the bank grew from 100 to 1000 employees, and from one branch to 100 branches. Then his bank was nationalized by the Mexico Government under President Jose Lopez Portillo. After privatization, he again founded another bank Bital, which was an even bigger bank than his first bank. In 1994, he was hit hard by the Mexican Peso Crisis and in 2002, he sold Bital to HSBC for $1.14 Billion. He would use the proceeds to buy Mexichem, a specialty product and innovative methodology chemical company which is also a cash cow. Disaster struck again in 2016 with the Pajaritos Explosion, which killed 32 and sent 88 into the hospital. Rumor was that Antonio was hiding somewhere. The same year he retired and let his 6 children run his business empire. In 2021, he is 83 year old and spends his time doing charity.
