So, why is the flange nut on an angle grinder a different shape on each side, and what is each side used for? The answer is simple! The raised side is used with grinding discs, screwed onto the grinder raised side down and the flat side is used with cutting discs, with the flat side screwed onto the grinder. It's important not to confuse the two as this can lead to dangerous disc breakage.
