Recently, the Edmond Fire Department received a Public Protection Classification rating of Class 1, the highest possible rating. The Insurance Service Office, or I.S.O., reviews and rates fire prevention and fire suppression capabilities of local fire departments. Edmond’s Class 1 accomplishment is due to the diligent efforts of the Fire Department, Water Resources, and Public Safety Communications.

The new rating began on November 1, 2021 and is in effect for five years. Many insurance companies use these classifications to evaluate risk in insuring a property serviced by the fire department. The PPC Class One rating covers areas within five miles of a fire station and one thousand feet of a fire hydrant. Areas within five road miles but not within one thousand feet of a hydrant will have a PPC Class 2 rating.

45,521 fire districts across the country have been evaluated by I.S.O. Fewer than 400 earn the Class 1 designation.
