-- PRESENTATION: TODA-HA BUKO RYU NAGINATA-JUTSU --
This ancient school was founded by Toda Seigen, who served Asakura Yoshikage, Daimyo of the Echizen province during the Sengoku era.The lineage of this school was transmitted from Hojo Ujiku, head of Hachigata Castle (Yorii city, Saitama prefecture, Kanto region) to his wife Daifuku Gozen. During the Taisho era, Murakami Hideko opened the Shusuikan Dojo in Kanda, Tokyo. Thereafter, Master Nitta Suzuyo, Master Nakamura Yoichi, and finally Master Tachiiri Kushiro succeeded him.
This school contains an extensive curriculum of weapon arts such as Nagamaki, Sojutsu, Bojutsu, Kusarigamajutsu and Kenjutsu, but is centered on naginata jutsu.
In Naginata-jutsu, the effective use of the Ishizuki (butt end) requires rigor and extensive work on both hands and foot movements.
Among Koryu, Naginata vs Naginata techniques are relatively rare, so this form of practice can be considered as the specificity of the Buko Ryu Naginata curriculum.
Toda-Ha Buko Ryu also includes Katchu-Bujutsu techniques designed to defeat armored opponents.
