Naga Chaturthi (Nagula Chavithi) falls on the 4th day of the waxing Moon phase (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Shravan (mid-July to mid-August) and it is the preceding day of Naga Panchami. Naga means snake and Chaturthi means 4th day of a lunar month. However, some observe Naga Chaturthi on the 4th day of the waxing Moon in the Tamil month of Karthigai (mid-November to mid–December) which falls after Diwali.

Naga Chaturthi is observed by women for the well-being and longevity of their spouse and children. Worshipping the snake Gods on this auspicious day can also reduce the negativities caused by the snake planets, Rahu and Ketu. The Nav Naga stotra is a very powerful mantra to remove all Naga Dosha, Ragu Dosha, Ketu Dosha, and Sarpa Dosha. This mantra will protect against evil eyes, curses and bad luck. Chanting this mantra regularly will give the devotee and his family success, good health, wealth, and peace.

Garuda Panchami is an auspicious day to celebrate Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Garuda is also known as Periya Tiruvadi, Pakshiraja, Vainateya, Vinatasuta, Vishnuvahana, Nagantaka & Suparna. This day is celebrated on the 5th day of the Waxing Moon phase in the month of Shravan (July–August). Garuda Panchami is celebrated to show the never-ending bond between Garuda and his mother Vinita. This day is observed by mothers and sons to enhance the love and affection between them. Mothers worship God Garuda for better health and the future of their children.
