How to find and dig for clams on the beach? First you have to check the rules and regulations of the beach you’re going to if they are open for digging or not. For Washington state and Oregon the limits are 15 clams a person and you will need a shellfish license. Each state will require a different shellfish license.

Clam Digging usually happens during Lowtide and there will be 2 or 3 different types of clam holes as shown in the video. A clam gun or a clam shovel will be needed to dig the clams up. When using a clam gun make sure to tilt the clam gun toward the ocean just a little when going down. If I feel the clam with the clam gun or hear a crunch i immediately take the clam gun out and start digging with my hands.
