ALH MKIII Dhruv Order
In March 2017, HAL had received an order for 32 ALH MK-III for Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to replace their aging fleet of helicopters with new improved version of ALH Dhruv equipped with Shakti-1H engines, new electronic warfare (EW) suite and warning systems, automatic chaff and flare dispensers, and improved vibration control system. The Naval variant of ALH MKIII comes with 19 specific systems suited for maritime role. It includes IFF MKXII & ATC Xpdr with ADS-B Out, V/UHF communication system, traffic alert and collision avoidance (TCAS-I), SAR Homer system, automatic deployable emergency locator transmitter (ADELT), loud hailer, radio altimeter, rescue basket, medical intensive care unit (MICU), IADS system, AFCS, digital video recording system (SSDVR), automatic identification system (AIS), high intensity search light (HISL), pressure refuelling system, control grip, EO POD Rev III, surveillance radar system and 12.7 mm gun system.
Induction of 1st Six ALH MKIII
Back in February 2021, HAL has handed over three ALH MKIII to Indian Navy and two ALHs to Indian Coast Guard. In April 2021, the three ALH MK-III were inducted into INS Hansa base of Indian Navy in Goa. In June 2021, another three ALH MKIII has been inducted into INS Dega in Vishakhapatnam.
2 ALH Dhruv MK-III inducted in INS Shikra
Back in October, Indian Navy has inducted two ALH MK III into its 321 Flight at the naval helicopter base INS Shikra in Mumbai. INS Shikra is also operating squadron of HAL Chetak for search and rescue missions and Westland Sea King Mk.42B helicopters for anti-submarine warfare.
2 ALH Dhruv MK-III inducted in INS Utkrosh
On 28th January, two more ALH-DHRUV MK III has been inducted in the fleet of Andaman Nicobar Command in Port Blair. The induction ceremony was held at INS Utkrosh, in presence of Commander-in-Chief, Andaman Nicobar Command, Lt. Gen. Ajai Singh as chief guest. INS Utkrosh is also operating squadron of Dornier 228 Maritime reconnaissance aircraft, HAL Chetak Helicopters and a training squadron of Pipistrel Alpha Trainer aircraft.
About ALH MK-III
ALH MK-III is more capable and versatile rotor craft equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance, communication, safety and survival equipment. It is a World class helicopter in 5.5 tonne category. It has very good high-altitude performance operating at altitudes over 6 km. ALH comes up with excellent manoeuvrability, user friendly control, low vibration and noise level, high speed, efficient lift which makes it superior among the contemporary helicopters. ALH has logged close to 3,000,000 cumulative flight hours and has proven its merit in versatile operations. It is fitted with a state-of-the-art glass cockpit and the cockpit section of the fuselage is of Kevlar and carbon-fibre construction; it is also fitted with crumple zones and crashworthy seats.
