About ten years ago the name of Keith Mayerson began to pop up during conversations with local painters. Bouncing between nostalgic views of tourist traps and points of interest to Elvis fans, and dusty industrial scenes from the heartland, these scenes acquire an unsettling poignantness through their quotidian familiarity and their sublime unremarkableness. Between the specific focus of the celebrity pieces and the blandness of the railroad travel log, there is a poetic space in which a part of every American inhabits.
