So this was the second visit to this location, after the first time we arrived too late and the sun had already set.

When this pumping station was in operation the water stored in the reservoir would have been diverted into the six settling ponds, these are situated below the dam, once the sediment had settled and the water was clear it was then piped underground into a victorian built holding tank.
It's unclear where the tank's boundaries are but there is a ventilation tower in the middle of the settling ponds.
The clean water would then be pumped to the nearby villages by the pump house that is situated next to the ponds.

The railway tracks that pass over the two viaducts are part of a heritage railway called the Great Central Railway, this railway stretches from Loughborough all the way to the centre of Leicester.
