One of the best ways to develop an appreciation for another culture is by experiencing its food. Sometimes the only contact people have with another country is by eating a meal at a restaurant. Here in Washington, DC, that concept has been turned into an annual festival. It’s called the Embassy Chef Challenge.

Embassies throughout the U.S. capital are asked to select a chef to serve as a “Food Ambassador” for their country. Then they all gather for one night to serve cocktails and culinary creations to the public. At the end of the night the crowd casts ballots and chooses a “People’s Choice” winner.

“Americas Now” attended this year’s competition and spoke to chefs from Latin America and the Caribbean.
