Описание к видео EAC12 Hotspot #47: Laboratory for Humans Evolutionary Studies, University of São Paulo, (Brazil)

We, from the Laboratory for Humans Evolutionary Studies (University of São Paulo, Brazil), are proud to be the one of the hotspots for the 12th Experimental Archaeology Conference. For the past 25 years, the LEEH has been an important laboratory on the study of archaeology and paleontology from the late Pleistocene and Holocene in the Americas. Until 2018 the laboratory was directed by Professor Dr. Walter Neves. After his retirement, Dr. Mercedes Okumura has been the head of the LEEH. Bioarcheology, zooarchaeology and lithic and pottery studies have always been part of our research. In 2018, we started to develop experimental archaeology studies related to hunter-gatherer groups in South America and had published some articles on the subject. Our research in both lithic artifacts and bone tools have been revealing a greater diversity of cultural aspects in South American groups from the Early Holocene. The experiments have also been very useful to produce reference collections of artifacts associated with a wide range of technologies from many places in the world. Experiments with bone and antlers are currently headed by MScs. Gabriela Mingatos. The lithic experiments are currently headed by Dr. J. C. Moreno de Sousa. Professor Bruce Bradley, from the University of Exeter, is also a research collaborator in our team, teaching us about flintknapping and joining our research projects. Experimental Archaeology has been an important aspect of our research because it allows us to understand the making of such tools and how the making varied across regions through time. Other projects that we take part include research on Early to Late Paleolithic hominin groups from Southern Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East.
