Описание к видео Lynnewood Hall: A Forgotten Gilded Age Palace on the Brink of Revival!🏛️

Lynnewood Hall is a massive Gilded Age mansion in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, often referred to as “America’s last great forgotten mansion.” Built between 1897 and 1900, it was designed by renowned architect Horace Trumbauer for Peter A.B. Widener, a wealthy Philadelphia businessman and investor in industries like streetcars, steel, and oil.

The 110-room, 34-bathroom neoclassical Beaux-Arts mansion was once one of the grandest private residences in the country, housing an extraordinary art collection that included works by Rembrandt, Raphael, and El Greco. However, tragedy struck the Widener family when Peter’s son and grandson perished in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, leading to a period of decline.

After Widener’s death in 1915, the mansion stayed in the family until 1940, when it was sold. Over the decades, Lynnewood Hall changed hands multiple times, eventually falling into disrepair. It was later acquired by a religious organization, which struggled to maintain it, and by the late 20th century, the once-magnificent estate had become abandoned, deteriorating, and overgrown.

Now, after decades of neglect, Lynnewood Hall is finally being revived. The Lynnewood Hall Preservation Foundation has stepped in with the goal of restoring this historic masterpiece to its former glory. Their ambitious plan includes structural repairs, interior restoration, and possibly opening parts of the estate to the public. This marks a new chapter for one of America’s greatest Gilded Age mansions, bringing it back from the brink of ruin.
