-- Production notes for future me to look at --
This is a reupload, but I took the chance to make some changes. It was weird working on something that's kinda dated at this point, but it was interesting seeing how far these little videos have gone in the last 2-3 years. The changes are...
Edited the script to fix a few errors and generally update the tone.
Of course, the plug was removed. People got kinda upset by that one. I never really got it. I was just saying 'thanks' to a buddy that helped me get some free kits. Still, the company is now out of business, so might as well remove the plug. Shouts out to my boy Kai though. I'm trying to get back over there next year. Let's get drunk and wander around a city again lol
Re-recorded all of the audio. The original audio was pretty week, so figured 'why not?'
Re-synced the footage to the new audio. Overall, I think this version is 3-4 minutes longer than the original. It was also nice to clean up some of the effects and adjust the color gradient.
Added new inserts. This includes some new stills and a single new video shot (the action base shot). Wanted to do more, but I've updated so much equipment, I actually had trouble replicating the lower quality video of these older videos.
Obligatory song I've had on repeat while making this: • 不純?
Anyway, here's the notes for the original review. They were super helpful for me going back. I'm glad I started this ritual of recapping stuff when the video is uploaded....
Being a 'casual' review, I only shot for a B- on this one lol. There was no problem that I spent more than 30 seconds trying to fix. If I did, I would just throw it out and use something easier. This leads me to have kind of an uneasy feeling about this review, as it didn't go through the same fine tuning as a regular review, but that was also kind of the point, so... idk
I got the footage before I did anything else. It was very weird, because I just shot vague angles and random poses, unsure what I would eventually need. I wasn't a fan, but seeing as how I was spending the month at home for the holidays, I needed to knock out footage quickly, and didn't have the luxury of planning stuff out.
I skipped the left and right side shots, and instead tried to use a black gradient to cover up a middle shot panned over. I couldn't quite get the sync between the black gradient and the pan, but it's a good first effort. I also had to nest the shot because the cross fade caused issues. Need to work this out, because it saved me a good 2 hours in capturing footage.
The script was second in line, and it's fairly lopsided. The build is way too short, and I didn't start including summaries until the end of the Articulation section. This really could've used another pass or two. But then again, it was a 12 minute video, so maybe it just could've used some compression in the later parts to make them as short as the build.
The audio isn't super great in this. I'm at my parents house for the holidays, so I don't quite have the silence I'm used too. Still, it turned out OK, even if I could've stood to move a foot back from the mic. But I had to be close to keep the gain low to keep out background noise from others in the house. Just bad situation.
The editing was surreal. I had been stressed out all month, so one night I slept 15 hours O_O. So I got up at 5:30pm, then started editing. I took sporadic breaks, but basically it's 9:30am right now and I'm uploading. There was a lot of "eh~ whatever" in here, which I think made this quicker to edit. Again, I was only shooting for a B- here, so I really didn't push myself. I didn't even circle anything lol.
And that's that. I have two RE/100 kits, but they aren't built yet, and I have a few HG's that could be fun quick videos, but I'm still not back at my apartment so I can't shoot footage. So idk when the next review will be. It's definitely going to be another 'casual' review though. I think it'd be cool to break into other grades, and I think this casual format is the way to do it!
