Dawn Breaks Over Bennelong Point on Australia Day 2022

We will greet the day to the artistic illuminations painted across the iconic Sydney Opera House Sails. January 26 is Australia Day, for many a day of celebration while for others it is a sombre day of reflection. As organisers attempt to maintain an atmosphere of festivity they also deliver events that acknowledge Australia's first nation's heritage wherever possible.

As has become tradition, the Dawn Projection artwork is kept a closely guarded secret until it illuminates the Opera House sails on January 26.

We will talk about the relevance of this day to Australians from different points of view and try to understand why this day which is meant to be about celebrating our nation is also so divisive. Mostly however we are here to enjoy the dawn and welcome the new day.

The projection feature's the artwork of David Miller, a senior Pitjantjatjara man from the Central Desert region of northern South Australia.
